A new Poundland store is set to open its doors at the old Poundstretcher site in Acocks Green.
Work is under way to refurbish the 5,000 square foot unit, which has been empty since Poundstretcher left in November, ready for the scheduled launch later this month.
The store opening is set to bring 17 new jobs to the village.
As well as Poundland’s usual range of £1 food and household items, the new shop in Warwick Road will have its own PEP&CO clothing and homeware department.
Set to open at 9am on Saturday, June 26, the discount store will feature a range of chilled and frozen food which has already been rolled out to more than 120 Poundland shops across the UK.
The chiller and freezer cabinets will be filled with a range of ready meals, pizzas, pies, frozen desserts and ice cream, as well as barbecue foods ready for the summer.
The latest throws, cushions, photo frames and decorative pieces from PEP&CO Home, which launched last year, will also be on sale, as well as womenswear, menswear and children’s’ clothing from the spring/summer 2021 collection.
Poundland retail director Austin Cooke said: “West Midlands is our home, so it’s great to be investing in and opening another store in the region.
“We’re really looking forward to opening our doors and welcoming customers to our new Acocks Green store.
“We know from the response elsewhere that customers will love our PEP&CO clothing and homeware, while the addition of chilled and frozen foods means they will be able to buy more of what they need in a single shopping trip.”
Previously, Acocks Green’s closest Poundland stores were Yardley, Sheldon or Shirley.
Like other branches, the new shop will have Covid-safe measures in place including barrier screens at the checkouts and a regular cleaning regime.
Customers are asked to follow the latest government guidelines on social distancing and the wearing of face masks in-store.
