Touchwood Shopping Centre has said it is “disappointed” that Build-a-Bear Workshop will be closing its Solihull store later this month.
The centre has confirmed that Build-a-Bear will be shutting its doors for the final time on Thursday, June 17.
No new retailer is currently lined up to take over the vacant unit once Build-a-Bear leaves, however Touchwood said enquiries are at an “unprecedented level”, with several new stores due to open in the shopping centre in the coming months.
A spokesman said: “We are of course disappointed that Build-a-Bear will be leaving us on June 17 and as this is such a new development, we do not yet have a replacement lined up.
“However, with enquiries at an unprecedented level, we are sure this space will be filled very soon.
“The future is looking bright in Solihull. Within the last few weeks we have welcomed CEX, The Magic Bean Coffee Shop and Mobile Outfitters to Touchwood.
“We have Diechmann opening later this month and a number of other operators including TAG Heuer, Dirty Wild Wings, Handmade Burger, Bar Estilo, 2 Tea, Nines and Excelerate gyms on their way very soon.
“We have also received offers and are in negotiation with several other prospective tenants.
“The overall buoyancy of Solihull for footfall and spend, along with the retention of John Lewis in Solihull have been the key factors driving demand for tenancy within Touchwood. We are excited for what the future holds in Solihull.”
Build-a-Bear hasn’t responded to BirminghamLive’s requests for a comment on the reasons behind the Solihull store’s closure.
The branch has only recently reopened after bosses were forced to close all UK stores during the nationwide lockdown in line with government advice.
In August last year, the retailer announced it was cancelling its popular annual Pay Your Age Day event to avoid crowds gathering and breaching Covid rules.
