Chocolate fans in Ashby will be spoiled for choice by the selection of freshly-made treats on offer at a new town centre shop.
Indulgent Chocolates has just opened its first shop, in Bath Street, Ashby, selling a range of delicious chocolate creations – and we’ve been in to have a look around.
The business was launched in May 2020 by Narborough resident Keith Tiplady, and originally started out as a hobby.
According to Keith, he was trying to make use of a chocolate tempering machine that he had bought his wife, to help with her home baking business.
Then, a month later, the father-of-two was made redundant from his role as a program manager at Triumph, so needed to ramp up the business to ensure that he was able to continue to pay the bills, along with his wife, who works for the NHS.
Keith decided to focus on tempered Belgian chocolate slabs, and initially took orders over Facebook and Instagram, before the Indulgent Chocolates website was launched late last year.
With the business having grown rapidly over the past few months, Keith needed more space to prepare and store the chocolates. Instead of renting premises to prepare the chocolates, he decided to go for what he described as the more “exciting” option of opening a shop to make and sell them in.
Customers will be able to find Indulgent Chocolate slabs, which are available solid or with indulgent fillings such as caramel, peanut butter and cookie dough. Gift boxes of chocolates and mini slabs are also on sale.
Alongside these are cakes made by Keith’s wife and mum, who run home baking business Cakes & Treats by S&J.
Their home-baked goodies – all of which are made with chocolate – include cupcakes, giant cookie slices, brownies and triple chocolate scones.
Indulgent Chocolates is also serving ice cream milkshakes, using ice cream from Ferneley’s Dairy at Melton Mowbray, blended with chocolate bars.
The shop is open Thursday and Friday 10am until 4pm, Saturday 10am until 5pm, Sunday 11am until 4pm and Monday 10am until 4pm.
