A new “lifestyle” shop featuring an array of produce from independent businesses is about to launch on a Leicestershire farm.
The Lifestyle Barn is opening for the very first time today, Tuesday, April 13, at Bawdon Lodge Farm at Nanpantan – and we were invited in for a sneak peek.
Customers visiting the two-storey shop, which is located in a converted barn, will be able to buy a range of food and drink, sustainable gifts, jewellery, clothing and more.
Much of the produce is sourced locally, such as Burleighs Gin, which is distilled on the farm, Botany Bees honey, Nenette chocolates, Driver’s Pickles and John Bradley Jams, as well as items from Katherine Sheard Art, Ralph and Rose baby accessories and Lemonybird greetings cards.
There’s also items sourced from elsewhere in the UK, all from independent businesses, including Mr Fitzpatrick’s cordials, Williams Handbaked, Morgan Wright, Jungle Culture, Nouri and Cocoba.
The shop is being launched by Lynn Bailey from Bawdon Lodge Farm, along with Jules Baines from Just Jules Jewellery.
The farm has been an outdoor and barn wedding and events venue since 2012.
Pre-covid it held its own popular artisan fairs.
According to Lynn, there is planning permission in place to develop the farm’s big grain barn into a coffee shop, lifestyle store and smaller retail units for local artisan businesses, but the pandemic led to a halt in proceedings.
Keen to do something to support and showcase local artisans and creatives and develop the Bawdon Lodge Farm brand, Lynn and Jules organised a covid-safe pop-up shop in December 2020.
Such was its success, the duo decided to take the shopping experience to the next level and move into one of the bigger barns at the farm.
According to Lynn, their aim is to establish a friendly shopping environment which is accessible to the local community and which supports local businesses.

The farm is also open for woodland walks, and customers can buy takeaway drinks and make use of the outdoor seating area.
Outdoor weddings are available, and plans to convert the big grain barn are still set to go ahead. A number of events are also due to take place at the farm this year, including artisan fairs, charity events and outdoor theatre in conjunction with local theatre groups.
