A motorist driving without insurance or a valid licence told police officers they were ‘collecting shopping’.
The driver also told the officers that they had only bought the car two days earlier.
However, the excuses were not valid and the car was seized and towed away by the police and the driver left to make their own way home.
The encounter was relayed on social media by the Leicestershire force’s Roads Policing Unit.
A member of the RPU team tweeted: “This is what happens if you drive without insurance and valid licence.
“We will recover your vehicle and stop you causing a damage to other road users.
“’I bought it two days ago’ and ‘collecting shopping’ are not excuses!”
The police can issue a £300 fine to uninsured drivers. The offence can also be punished with six penalty points on the driver’s licence.
However, the most serious cases an go be heard by courts which can impose harsher penalties, including disqualification and the destruction of the vehicle.
