A fish and chip restaurant in Leicester city centre is about to relaunch, with a new name and new menu items.
Mother Hubbard’s in London Road will, as of this coming weekend, be known as Captain Haddock’s.
To celebrate the change, it is offering half-price fish and chips for one day only – on the launch day, Saturday, April 10.
According to the owner of the brand, the change reflects the business’s change in direction.
He told LeicestershireLive: “We are rebranding because we want to take the business in a different direction and have a fresh new look.
“We are also starting to franchise our new concept, so not all stores will be company-owned.”
He added that Captain Haddock’s will be doing more charitable work, including feeding the homeless and donating money to provide water wells in Third World countries.
The traditional fish and chips that Mother Hubbard’s has become known for will remain, and as part of the relaunch, new menu items will be added, including prawns, spicy fish and chicken strips.
Mother Hubbard’s opened in Leicester in April 2019, and become the company’s first branch in the Midlands.
The brand was originally started by two Coronation Street stars.
The first Mother Hubbard’s was opened in Bradford in 1972, by Bernard Youens and Jean Alexander, who played long-serving characters Stan and Hilda Ogden.
Now under new ownership, the brand has expanded all over the UK.
The Leicester branch will be open on Saturday from 3pm until 11pm.
