Wagamama has announced its Coventry venue will reopen for outdoor dining from next month.

Customers will be able to dine alfresco at the Asian-inspired eatery on Cathedral Lanes when lockdown restrictions are partially lifted on April 12.

Since the chain has never taken bookings, they say they are staying “true to this ethos” and no pre-bookings will be required at the 72 nationwide restaurants that are opening.

Under current government plans indoor dining will only be allowed after May 17 when Wagamama will look to reopen the remainder of their restaurants.

Customers will also be able to enjoy some new dishes, including the restaurant’s biggest ever vegan range.

A Wagamama spokesperson said: “We’re excited to begin this first stage of reopening and we’ve got some incredible new dishes for guests to try.

“We announced in January that we had developed our biggest vegan range ever, including our vegan chilli squid. But with some of these dishes not being suitable for our delivery and click + collect menu, guests are yet to try them.

“We can’t wait to re-open with these new vegan versions of our most iconic dishes. Our outdoor dining experience offers guests the same great Wagamama experience whilst complying with coronavirus safety regulations, ensuring both guest and staff safety.”

Wagamama is working closely with their charity partners Young Minds and mental health campaigner Ben West on their mission to ‘open up differently’.

Together they have sought to draw attention to the importance of mental wellbeing, especially amongst young people, which has been exacerbated by the isolation and loneliness felt during lockdown.

This has involved Wagamama positioning its iconic benches in key university cities and launching a limited-edition Katsu Smoothie in the run up to re-opening.

Both are designed to help get young people opening-up and talking, with all proceeds going to Young Minds.

Wagamama will continue to offer delivery and click + collect at all of their current trading restaurants.
