Actor Jamie Dornan says he made a tactical entrance so his two kids wouldn’t hear him swear when the family watched his latest movie at their Cotswold home.

He and wife Amelia Warner have posted photographs of them wearing Hawaiian shirts and drinking cocktails while watching Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar which has come out this week.

Apparently the loud, brash goofball comedy by Bridesmaids writers Kirsten Wiig and Annie Mumolo is becoming “a thing” in America and Jamie is winning plaudits for belting out a love ballad while climbing a palm tree.

But the 38-year-old actor best known for broody serious roles in Fifty Shade of Grey and The Fall is also getting lots of positive feedback about his newly discovered “comedic chops”.

He has been giving interviews from the Cotswold home he shares with wife Amelia daughters Dulcie (7), Elva (5), and one-year-old Alberta.

He told USA Today that his children enjoyed watching him being silly and kept asking to see him singing his song.

“The older two are five and seven,” he explained.

“They watched almost the whole movie the other day and I was sort of tactically coming in – I think there’s only two times anybody swears and it’s me both times – and I came in at that moment and I was talking over (it).

“And some stuff is just over their head.”

The comedy is about two middle-aged women who decide to go on a wild holiday to the fictional resort Vista Del Mar in Florida after losing their jobs in a furniture store.

It stars the two Bridesmaids stars Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo and Jamie plays a character called Edgar who is very handsome but an up to no good spy who has an evil mistress.

Filming it posed a number of trials for the actor who had to sing an “absurd song” while climbing a palm tree in Cancun in July and struggled to rip his shirt off.

It’s a long way from his usual roles and he admits it’s a particular risk because it’s a “silly” and “out there” comedy but insists he’s a bit of a clown in real life.

It may shock fans of the good-looking brooding actor who played a serial killer in The Fall and a sadist in Fifty Shades of Grey franchise.

But he said: “People who know me, my friends, know I’m really silly most of the time.

He added: “Our five-year-old, who turned five just yesterday, she said the other day, ‘When I grow up I want to be silly like Daddy.’ It made me really proud.”

His last film was Wild Mountain Thyme but he says Barb & Star has shown people a side of him he always wanted to reveal

Earlier this week he revealed his silly side when he sported a bikini T-shirt and straw hat during an interview with Variety.

Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar is available now on digital and video on demand.
