All three lanes of the M1 in Leicestershire were closed after a crash.

Traffic was held as the lanes of the northbound section of the motorway between Junction 20 for Lutterworth and Junction 21 for Leicester at about 11.40pm yesterday.

The incident involved one car which was left straddling the hard shoulder and lane one after the crash.

Highways England said the traffic was held for 12 minutes and then all lanes were reopened.

It is believed no one was hurt in the incident.

A Highways England spokesman said: “It was a single vehicle accident.

“It led to a full carriageway closure. Traffic was held for 12 minutes the all lanes were reopened.”

A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said: “We received a call re a vehicle seen on the M1 by a passing motorist at around 11.40pm.

“The vehicle was positioned half in the hard shoulder, half in lane 1 so causing an obstruction for other road users.

“Highways England officers assisted with a temporary closure while officers dealt at the scene.”
