Leicester City look set to abandon any pursuit for Inter Milan midfielder Christian Eriksen due to the former Tottenham star’s £300,000-a-week wages.
Inter are eager to offload Eriksen this month after falling down the pecking order at the Serie A club and he has been linked with moves to Spurs and Aston Villa.
According to the Telegraph, a return to Spurs, where he spent seven years, has not been ruled out but it has claimed that Leicester also made an approach only to rule themselves out of the running due to his £300k-a-week wages.
That would have significantly smashed the sums that Jamie Vardy and Kasper Schmeichel are both earning with both players said to be pocketing more than £100,000-a-week.
For any deal to happen, Inter would have to pay a large contribution to his wages, but it now looks likely the Foxes will look elsewhere before the transfer window closes on February 1.
News of Leicester’s interest in Eriksen comes as the club are set to be without Dennis Praet over the next three months because of a hamstring injury.
And with Demarai Gray and Hamza Choudhury both tipped to leave the club before the window slams shut, it would at least give Rodgers room to manouevere as he looks to keep pace with leaders Manchester United.
The situation has also been helped by the club offloading Islam Slimani who moved to Lyon earlier this month and he was reportedly earning £2m a year at the King Power Stadium.
