Sky Blue Marko makes comeback

Coventry City goalkeeper Marko Marosi has made his comeback to action while defender Michael Rose is due to return to training this week.

The Sky Blues’ centre-back has been out since early November and manager Mark Robins has urged him to ‘grind through’ the last few stages of his rehabilitation and get back on the pitch.

The Sky Blues have been hit hard with injuries during the course of the first half of the Championship campaign with the loss of strikers Matty Godden and Tyler Walker, first choice goalkeeper Marko Marosi, skipper Liam Kelly and Rose among the key casualties.

Robins’s incoming work is done

There’s just under a fortnight of the January transfer window left and Coventry City’s focus has now switched to balancing the books.

Manager Mark Robins has strengthened his Sky Blues side with two new loan signings, drafting in experienced Leicester City midfielder Matty James to fill the void left by injured captain Liam Kelly, and Brighton striker Viktor Gyokeres to help out up top in the absence of Matty Godden and Tyler Walker.

And that’s it for this transfer window in terms of new players joining the squad.

“We won’t be doing anything else,” Robins confirmed to CoventryLive.

Coventry City manager Mark Robins

Mark Robins has completed his Coventry City recruitment work for the 2021 January transfer window.

The Sky Blues ‘ boss has drafted in Leicester City midfielder Matty James and Brighton and Hove Albion striker Viktor Gyokeres to boost his Championship squad after losing key men Liam Kelly, Matty Godden and Tyler Walker to injury.

Money is understandably tight at the club and Robins is now hoping to help balance the books by off-loading players who don’t figure in his immediate plans, or, moving forward.

Marcel Hilssner has already switched to League Two Oldham Athletic on loan until the end of the season but who else is likely to be on their way out to free up wages?

Striker attracting interest

Coventry City’s Amadou Bakayoko is attracting interest from a host of clubs keen to take the athletic centre-forward this January.

Promotion chasing League One clubs are understood to be leading the race for the 25-year-old whom the Sky Blues are prepared to let go this month in order to help balance the books.

Manager Mark Robins has drafted in Viktor Gyokeres on loan from Premier League Brighton and Hove Albion to help with his striker crisis – the 22-year-old Swedish international joining after first choice front men Matty Godden and Tyler Walker have been sidelined with injury.

Max Biamou and Bakayoko were City’s only available senior strikers prior to Gyokeres’s arrival last Friday.

Reading injury woes continue

Coventry City have been handed a boost ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Reading with the news that the hosts have a number of injuries to key players.

Among them are striker George Puscas, forward Yakou Meite and club captain Liam Moore – all of whom have been ruled out of the early kick-off (6pm) against the Sky Blues at the Madejski Stadium.

It’s the first time in just over two weeks that the Royals and City have a Championship game after both clubs had their Saturday fixtures with Brentford and Sheffield Wednesday, respectively, postponed due to an outbreak of coronavirus at their rival clubs.

Reading boss Veljko Paunovic’s side are keen to keep up the pace at the top of the table and a win for the hosts could see them move up to third place.
