Two people had a ‘lucky escape’ after their car careered off the M1 and ended halfway up a tree.
The pair escaped with only minor injuries after the car they were in left the carriageway on the M1 northbound between junction 20 for Lutterworth and 21 for the M69 on Friday.
Firefighters, who were called to the scene at 8.08pm, said the pair got themselves out of the car and suffered no major injuries.
A Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were called to an incident where one vehicle involved in road traffic collision.
“The car had left the carriageway and ended up in a tree. The two occupants of the vehicle have extricated. They sustained no injuries.
“The vehicle was not made safe by fire service due to its position.
“The incident was left with the highways department.”
One firefighter, who attended the incident, tweeted: “A lucky escape with only minor injuries for two individuals on the M1 this evening.”
Firefighters published photographs of the crashed car and appealed to people not to take photographs of car crashes as they drive past.
The firefighter posted: “Before you film an incident as you drive past, take a moment to think about the individuals involved, along with their family and friends.
“Not to mention the laws you are breaking.”
