Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers may be the bookies’ favourite to return to Chelsea if the club decide to dispense with Frank Lampard’s services, but reports suggest that couldn’t be further from the truth.
According to a report in The Athletic last year, Rodgers has upset the Stamford Bridge hierarchy in the past and will therefore never be offered the chance to manage the Blues.
Rodgers first made a name for himself as a coach after being appointed by former boss José Mourinho as youth manager in 2004, later being promoted to reserve manager in 2006.
But it is claimed Chelsea are unlikely to turn to the Foxes’ manager in the event that they decide to end Lampard’s spell in charge after a run of just one win in the last six Premier League games has seen the Blues slip to eighth in the table, albeit the former Derby County boss having guided his side to a 17 game unbeaten run in all competitions, including eight wins, prior to the recent downturn.

Lampard is under increasing pressure following Sunday’s 3-1 defeat by Manchester City when Chelsea were outclassed in the first half when they found themselves three goals behind at the break.
Chelsea are now said to be considering Lampard’s future and assessing potential replacements.
While the bookies consider Rodgers an obvious contender following his progress at Leicester and previous ties at Chelsea, it is claimed the Northern Irishman is not under consideration.
The Express says that following his arrival at Liverpool, Rodgers appeared to poke several digs at Chelsea by suggesting he was now at a “big club”.
When discussing loanee Victor Moses in 2014, he told the Liverpool Echo: “It’s not easy when you come to a big club.
“You come from a really good club like Chelsea to a massive club like Liverpool, where there is expectancy every day.”
