Horrified families in Birmingham and across the country claim they had their Christmas Day ruined after receiving rotten turkeys.

Many customers took to Twitter to express their anger and complain to supermarkets such as Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Aldi about the condition of their festive centre piece.

Claire Brett from Birmingham was one such shopper who claimed to have received an inedible turkey.

“Pre ordered all our Christmas food from @sainsburys just opened the turkey and the smell has knocked me sideways,” she tweeted.

“Supposed to be fresh until tomorrow but obviously not. 30 quid for a rotten turkey thanks Sainsbury’s.”

‘Rank rotten’ turkey crown from Tesco

Rachael Anne Clark said her turkey was ‘rank rotten’ despite still being in date according to the packaging.

She said: “Hey Tesco, I just went to put my turkey in the oven and it’s actually rank rotten? Not been out the fridge since we bought it and best before the 26th.

“Sooooo good job we bought loadsa tatties I guess? Cause nae turkey for us today.”

Justyn King was another who wasn’t too pleased with the state of his turkey.

He said: “So Christmas is ruined by a turkey that’s stinking and green with a 27th date on brilliant just brilliant hope your open tomorrow so you can have it back.”

Richard Woodward slammed Aldi for his purchase, posting: “Cheers 2020 gone off Turkey, tomorrow’s date. Vegetables only then.”

Graham Moles’ Waitrose Turkey also had disappointed him. He said: “Final nail in the 2020 coffin. Waitrose have ruined Xmas with a gone off turkey. #spoiledchrimbo.”

Aldi and Tesco have today tweeted numerous apologies and encouraged customers to get in touch so their complaints can be resolved.
