Gloucester Rugby are set to sign Scotland international fly-half Adam Hastings according to well placed sources north of the border.

The Cherry and Whites have been continually linked with an additional top end fly-half despite having the mercurial Danny Cipriani on their books.

Cipriani has been missing since Gloucester’s opening game of the 2020/21 season when he had an off day – sidelined with a reported injury ‘niggle’ according to sources at the club.

Behind Cipriani at number 10, head coach George Skivington has Lloyd Evans, who signed a new deal to extend his time at Kingsholm back in September, and England U20s stand off George Barton who made his European debut on Sunday in the 55-10 defeat away at Lyon.

Billy Twelvetrees, who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury which requires surgery, has also worn the 10 jersey on plenty of occasions and is currently the club’s first choice kicker when fit.

A move for Hastings would likely signal a changing of the guard at fly-half for Gloucester, casting questions over Cipriani’s future at the club.

Former Bath fly-half Hastings has reportedly turned down a new contract at his current side Glasgow Warriors in favour of making a switch back to the Gallagher Premiership.

24-year-old Hastings currently has 22 international caps and when everyone is fit is generally seen as second choice for Scotland behind Racing 92’s Finn Russell.

In recent weeks Gloucester have been linked with Leicester Tigers’ out of favour fly-half option Tom Hardwick but he is also understood to be a target of Bristol Bears boss Pat Lam.

However Tigers are reported to be set to lose Argentine international 10 Joaquin Diaz Bonilla at the end of the season with French Top 14 trio Montpellier, La Rochelle and Bayonne reported to be interested in signing the former Jaguares player who only arrived at Welford Road this summer on a one-year deal.

And this week The Rugby Paper reported new Scotland international Jaco van der Walt is also on Gloucester’s radar.

The South African play maker has been playing for Pro14 side Edinburgh Rugby since 2017.
