A new fitness studio is set to be launched in the city centre venue that is home to East Street Lanes bowling alley and Caddyshackers crazy golf course – both of which are currently closed due to coronavirus restrictions.
As well as Caddyshackers, which opened in 2018, and East Street Lanes, which opened in 2019, there is an event space, East Street Events.
It is this area that is being converted into East Street Fitness, as well as a co-working space.
The fitness studio will include a gym, kitted out with exercise bikes, treadmills and weights, and will offer classes, including 45 minute HIT sessions.
According to owner Billy Allingham, the idea has come about as a result of the current coronavirus restrictions, and was also inspired by his own fitness journey.
He told LeicestershireLive: “I started doing yoga five or six years ago in an effort to change my life habits. I enjoyed the physicality of it and also the camaraderie with other yogis, meeting for a turmeric latte or a juice instead of a pint.
“I want to create a social gathering space based on health rather than alcohol to cater to the generation that would rather pick up a barbel than prop up a bar.”
Describing the new fitness studio, Billy said “It will have a very modern, funky vibe with nightclub-style lighting to create a vibrant buzz to work out to.”
It will be open from 6am until 9pm, offering a fresh juice bar and chill-out area with changing rooms and showers.
Alongside the fitness studio will be a co-working space with desks for those not back in the office but looking for a quiet workspace without the distractions of home.
The East Street venue is based in the unit formerly occupied by Dunelm.
Caddyshackers opened in November 2018, and features 18 holes, with quirky themes including an old pub, a beach and a haunted corridor.
The £1 million bowling attraction East Street Lanes opened in August 2019, and became Leicester city centre’s first bowling alley for 14 years.
It features eight Brunswick lanes, a gaming arcade with retro classics such as Pac-Man Basketball and Space Invaders Frenzy, plus there’s pool tables and air hockey. There’s also a restaurant and bar area.
Caddyshackers and East Street Lanes both reopened for a matter of weeks earlier this year before having to close again due to current restrictions.
East Street Fitness is due to open in mid January.
