Coventry City fans have gone giddy at the promotion of a new beer that appears to take a cheeky dig at their Midlands rivals Aston Villa.
Made by Dhillon’s Brewery, the Stout On The Vanilla is now available to buy which pays homage to Coventry’s brown kit of the 1970s.
On the can, the acronym SOTV can be seen which is a hashtag used by Birmingham City fans as well as Coventry supporters which means S*it on the Villa.
And the that was not lost on supporters of both clubs as they became involved in some light-hearted rivalry on social media.
One Villa fan immediately responded: “Love this. Teams hating us, we are in your heads.”
And that was met with a reply from a Coventry fan who said: “First one rattled. There will be many more to come I’m sure.”
Coventry supporters said it was a brilliant bit of marketing as they praised the humour.
Phil Rooney said: “That’s brilliant.”
And Matthew Williams said: “It made me laugh, that’s for sure.”
Even Villa fan Russell Bradbury was impressed.
He said: “This is actually quite funny and I am a Villa fan!”
In a survey earlier this year, Coventry fans voted Aston Villa as their biggest rivals ahead of Leicester City, but that was not reciprocated by Villa fans who put them fifth in their list.
The first time Coventry met with played Villa n league football was in the 1936-37 season, but it ended in a goalless draw.
