A Nuneaton shop owner is offering to pay for her customers to park – after the council refused a bid to offer free parking in the town centre over Christmas.
Jo Williams so angry about the council’s decision that she has said she will pay for an hours parking for anyone who spends more than £25 in her Joco gift shop.
She hit out at the decision, saying shops in both Nuneaton and Bedworth town centres needed the boost of free car parking to bring in much-needed trade.
The multi-award winning independent retailer told CoventryLive the decision of the extraordinary council meeting last night was ‘another nail in the town’s coffin’.
“I think it’s an absolute disgrace for it to have been turned down,” said the mum-of-two.
“Hinckley have advertised free parking on Saturdays and Sundays, so it’s just yet another nail in the towns coffin. As an independent retailer this is just another barrier to overcome in getting people to visit the town.”
“This Saturday its Small Business Saturday and I will pay for one hours parking for all Joco customers spending over £25,” she said.
“I might even look to extend that throughout December. I can’t afford to do it, but without customers, shops like mine will close due to lack of footfall.”
