Police are appealing for witnesses after a driver died in a crash on the A5 yesterday.
The man was in his 50s and died after his silver Mercedes smashed into a parked HGV on the A5 roundabout, near the Blue Boar Inn in Mancetter, near Atherstone, at 6.46am on Sunday, November 29.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called by the police to reports of a collision involving a car and a stationary HGV on the A5 roundabout near the Blue Boar Inn in Mancetter, Atherstone at 6.46am yesterday (Sunday).
“Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended. When ambulance crews arrived, they found a car which had been involved in a collision with a stationary HGV.
“It quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the driver of the car, a man, and he was confirmed dead on scene.”
Residents living nearby said on social media that they heard a loud bang in the area.
The road was closed from the Mancetter Island and Holly Lane Island while emergency services dealt with the incident.
A Warwickshire Police spokesperson said the man’s next of kin hav been informed and they are being offered support.
The force is now appealing for any witnesses to the collision between the car and the lorry.
“Officers are keen to speak with anyone who saw the incident, or who saw the vehicles and the manner in which they were being driven prior to the collision,” a Warwickshire Police spokesperson said.
“Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and speak to PC Abimilech quoting incident number 46 of 29 November.”
