Leicester’s newest branch of Specsavers opened its doors for the first time this week.
The new optician, inside Sainsbury’s at Fosse Park, welcomed its first customers on Monday, November 23.
Run as a joint-venture partnership, the store is the largest Specsavers store within a Sainsbury’s supermarket in the country.
It is headed up by directors Owen Clarke, Baljit Kaur and Dishpal Gawera who also run the Leicester city centre practice and have more than 72 years’ optical experience between them.
According to the team, the addition of the new store at the popular retail park provides more flexibility for the Leicester community in terms of accessing eye and audiology care.
Lead optometrist Siddhant Majithia is helping to oversee a team of seven who aim to offer the very best optical and audiology service.
Five have joined from the town centre store, with two new positions created.
The store benefits from the latest in optical equipment which includes an Optical Coherence Technology (OCT) machine, usually found in hospital eye departments, which produces a structural scan of the eye.
A sound-proofed audiology room is also be available for hearing appointments, carried out by hearcare director, Jake Tyers.
In line with NHS recommendations, Specsavers colleagues use personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout the stores, wear face masks and other PPE during tests, and all testing equipment and frames are thoroughly sanitised before and after each use.
Appointments need to be booked in advance by calling 01164971560 or visiting www.specsavers.co.uk/stores/fosseparksainsburys.
There are restrictions on the number of customers allowed in store at any one time and strict social distancing rules apply. Where possible, payment should be made by card instead of cash.
The store is open from 8am until 7pm Monday to Friday, 8am until 6.30pm on Saturday, and 9.30am until 4pm on Sunday.
