Wesley Jobello took another step towards making an impact in Coventry City’s first team as the Under-23s suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest.
The French winger, who has been out of the senior picture for over 12 months after suffering an ACL injury last year, was named on Mark Robins’s bench for the first time on Friday night since suffering the career knock-back, albeit not getting on in the goalless Championship draw with Birmingham City.
He has already been building up his match minutes in development squad games this season and today came through another 45 at the Alan Higgs Centre.
And the fact that he came off at half-time is, perhaps, an indication that he will be included again in the first team squad to face Cardiff City on Wednesday night.
Jobello certainly caught the eye when he sent in a cross for Gervane Kastaneer to head onto the post in a first half in which Luke Tisdale’s lads went behind to a 43rd minute penalty, converted by Julian Larsson.
The visitors increased their lead on 72 minutes before Jordan Young pulled a goal back for the Sky Blues from the penalty spot ten minutes from time after Aaron Evans-Harriott was brought down as he twisted his way into the box.
Kastaneer was the only other senior player involved in the defeat, the Dutch forward going off on 70 minutes when he was replaced by young Under-18s striker Harrison Nee.
City: Tom Billson; Wes Jobello (HT, for Jordan Young), Josh Pask, Jordon Thompson, Jay McGrath, Joe Newton; Jack Burroughs, Dan Bartlett, Blaine Rowe; Gervane Kastaneer (70 mins, for Harrison Nee), Will Bapaga (66 mins, for Aaron Evans-Harriott).
