A new shop is opening soon within the Sainsbury’s superstore at Fosse Park.

Specsavers will open the doors to its new branch on Monday, November 23.

Run as a joint-venture partnership, the store will be the largest Specsavers store within a Sainsbury’s in the country.

According to Specsavers, the new store will provide more flexibility for the local community in terms of accessing eye and audiology care.

It will be headed up by directors Owen Clarke, Baljit Kaur and Dishpal Gawera, who also run the Leicester city centre practice and have more than 72 years’ optical experience between them.

Lead optometrist Siddhant Majithia will help oversee a team of seven who will aim to offer the very best optical and audiology service. Five team members are joining from the city centre store, with two new positions created.

Specsavers is opening soon

Director Owen Clarke said: “We’re looking forward to opening our doors to the public. As providers of an essential health service, despite the lockdown, we will be open for all eye care and hearing needs, playing our part in relieving some of the strain on our partners in the NHS.

“We want to reassure everyone that we will be adhering to the strict Government guidelines to protect the safety and wellbeing of our team and our customers.”

The store will benefit from the latest in optical equipment which includes an Optical Coherence Technology (OCT) machine, usually found in hospital eye departments, which produces a structural scan of the eye.

A sound-proofed audiology room will also be available for hearing appointments, carried out by Hearcare director Jake Tyers.

Director Baljit Kaur said: “The store will have two test rooms up and running when we open, with another three available when demand requires them, plus there is a pre-test area and more than 1,000 different frame styles on display.

“Fosse Park is a fabulous location, and we’re excited to be part of the retail community and supporting those who visit us.”

In line with NHS recommendations, Specsavers colleagues use personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout the stores, wear face masks and other PPE during tests, and all testing equipment and frames are thoroughly sanitised before and after each use.

It is possible to book an appointment ahead of the store opening and this can be done by calling 0116 4971560 or via the website here.

Once the store is open, appointments will need to be made in advance and there will also be restrictions on the number of customers allowed in store at any one time. There will be strict social distancing rules and, where possible, payments should be made by card rather than cash.

The store will be open from 8am until 7pm Monday to Friday, 8am until 6.30pm on Saturday, and 9.30am until 4pm on Sunday.
