Coventry City are relishing yet another big Championship test, says boss Mark Robins.

The Sky Blues tackle Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

The two clubs were two divisions apart last season, Robins’ men winning the League One title while Watford suffered relegation from the Premier League.

They did lock horns in the EFL Cup, Coventry losing 3-0 at Vicarage Road – but Robins and his players are looking forward to this weekend’s league clash.

“For us to be going to Watford is a huge step forward, we were two divisions apart last season,” said Robins.

“The cup game last year is an experience that helped us, we took some sort of learning from that game and tried to apply it for the rest of the season.

“We’re going back there in the same division, so we know it’s a tough game, they’ve got some real quality in their ranks.

“They can make changes and not really affect the quality. That’s the difference at this level, but we’ve got to take the overall performance from the other night into the game.”

The Sky Blues slipped to a 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest in midweek, and while Robins was very unhappy with Forest’s late penalty he was pleased with the performance from his players.

“It was a really good performance. Like I said after the game, it was raw and really disappointing,” he added.

“The biggest disappointment, even on reflection, was the fact we weren’t talking about a really good away performance.

“To lose in that manner is a big lesson. We have to stop the errors.

“It was a poor goal by any standards and it took away from the obvious quality in the performance that we had.”

The Watford match gives Coventry another opportunity to show they can compete in the Championship, having already beaten both Reading and QPR.

“I think that there are times in games where we’re making choices that we need to change – we need to change those choices that we make – otherwise we start to invite some pressure that’s unwarranted really because we’re in control. You’ve got to try to do that, you’ve got try to maintain as much control as you possibly can do against sides that are really good,” said Robins.
