A spectacular illuminations display at Coombe Abbey has been rescheduled due to the second Covid-19 lockdown.

The Luminate light show was due to start illuminating a mile-long walk through the country park on November 25.

But organisers have been forced to move the start date.

They are hoping the event will still go ahead in January 2021, starting on the 20th.

Daniel Maycock, one of the organisers said: “Unfortunately with the new restrictions coming into place, it means that we can no longer proceed as planned.

“With the possibility that the lockdown could be extended, along with the unknown tier restrictions post the lockdown, we feel it’s best to push back the start date to 20 January 2021 when we hope things will have settled down.

The emails come out twice a day, at lunchtime and in the evening, with the latest news, what’s on and sport from across the county.

“The rescheduled event will then run up to February 20th to incorporate the half term holiday period.”

Anyone with tickets to the event will be contacted by the company to either transfer their tickets or be issued a full refund.

Daniel added: “Anyone with tickets for the current run will receive an email from us with the option to either transfer their booking or receive a full refund.

“We are still really confident that we can deliver a fantastic light trial, and hopefully it will be a nice start to a better year with light at the end of the tunnel.”

Councillor Abdul Salam Khan, cabinet member for events said: “I’m really pleased that the team has been able to reschedule Luminate for the New Year.

“These are really trying times, but its right that we all do our bit to try and limit the spread of this virus. In the meantime our amazing parks remain open for people to enjoy and as we enter another period of lockdown we know they will be really important for physical and mental well-being.”

Tickets for the new January event are now on sale.
