Bees’ boss’s glowing City assessment

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has paid a glowing tribute to Coventry City’s style of football ahead of tomorrow’s big match in Greater London.

And the 47-year-old Dane has backed the Sky Blues to “comfortably” stay in the Championship in their first season back in the second tier, but only after his side have dominated Mark Robins’s men from the first whistle to the last.

Both sides go into the game on identical points, having each taken four points from their opening four league games.

Asked if he thinks Coventry will be dangerous opponents, the Bees’ manager said, “One hundred per cent!,” before going on to say the Mark Robins’s side not only suit the Championship, but actually add to it.

Leo’s star studded Brentford prep

Mark Robins believes Coventry City defender Leo Ostigard has had the perfect preparation for Saturday’s game after pitting his defensive wits against the man he considers to be the hottest striker in the world.

The Norwegian has been on duty with his country during the international break after stepping up from the Under-21s.

And although the 20-year-old, who is on a season-long loan from Premier League Brighton, didn’t get to earn his first senior cap in a triple header fortnight that saw Norway lose to Serbia in the UEFA Euro qualifiers, before beating Romania and Northern Ireland in the Nations League, the City boss reckons his time away will have been well spent.

Robins has to decide whether to keep faith with Ostigard, who has started every Championship game so far this season, or restore star Sky Blues centre-half Michael Rose to the starting line-up to face Brentford this weekend.

Mason finally moves on

Coventry City defender Brandon Mason is due to hook up with his new loan club this weekend after recovering from injury.

The 23-year-old left-back was the subject of an international deadline day move on October 5 to Scottish Premier club St Mirren.

Mason has slipped down the pecking order following the return of Sam McCallum on loan from Norwich City to rival Ryan Giles for the left wing-back shirt with the Sky Blues.

And manager Mark Robins is hoping the move to the Paisley club will prove a “fruitful” one for the player who is contracted to City until 2022.

Max stays put as window shuts

Sky Blues’ fans favourite Max Biamou is going nowhere for the time being after the domestic transfer window closed with no further ins or outs at the club.

Manager Mark Robins revealed earlier yesterday that there had been interest in the player but, come 5pm, nothing had transpired and the popular French striker will remain at the club, no doubt hoping to fight for his place back in the first team.

Chief executive Dave Boddy confirmed: “Nothing’s happened. I’ve sent everyone home, so it’s been a very quiet day.”
