People are being warned they need to heed new warnings about coronavirus or face the potential of a second lockdown.

Concerns are rising about the impact of Covid-19 on Christmas after Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a new drive to address rising cases.

Meanwhile, there are fears for the impact on the NHS as infections increase – with people still finding it hard to access tests.

The Prime Minister announced in his address to BBC, ITV and Sky News last night that he would bring in the army to help with the fight against coronavirus if needed.

His Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab followed up this morning by warning a second lockdown could happen if people did not heed warnings.

Meanwhile, schools across Birmingham and the West Midlands continue to bear the brunt of the virus, with classes being sent home due to positive tests.

This comes as pubs, bars and restaurants face a new regime coming into force from tomorrow, Thursday September 24. That will include table service only and a strict 10pm closing time.

This is a live blog and updates will follow.
