A drive-in cinema event, which promises to be the ‘ultimate horror film experience’ is coming to Leicestershire.

The Big Scream event will take place at Market Harborough Showground on Friday, October 30 and Saturday, October 31.

Film fans will be able to watch the 1984 horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street on the Friday night, and 2017 horror film IT on the Saturday.

Both film showings will be complete with live scare actors, to ensure the Halloween experience is truly frightening.

The Big Scream is suitable for those aged 16 and over only, and tickets cost from £15 per person (plus £1 booking fee. If you’d like to upgrade to a VIP ticket, you can do so for an extra £3.

The upgrade will mean that you’ll be in the new VIP circle, which guarantees you a spot closer to the screen. You will also be able to order food to your car via a waiter service in this area.

Organisers Fleckney Group are also putting on a family-friendly cinema event – Musical Maestros.

This will take place from Friday, October 23 to Wednesday, October 28.

On the Friday, there will be an evening showing of Jersey Boys, then on the Saturday, West Side Story will be shown in the afternoon, with Phantom of the Opera in the evening.

On the Sunday, you’ll be able to watch The Wizard of Oz in the afternoon, or Les Misérables in the evening.

Prices for these films are £11 adults, £9 children (plus £1 booking fee) with a £3 supplement for the VIP circle.

On Monday, October 26, The Greatest Showman will be shown, then on Tuesday, you’ll be able to watch Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, and on Wednesday, The Nightmare Before Christmas will be shown. All are evening screenings.

The prices for these films are £11 adults, £5 children (plus £1 booking fee) with a £3 supplement for the VIP circle.

There are a number of new features which the organisers are introducing for these drive-in cinema events.

Each car will be given a wireless speaker system that sits on your dashboard, which will be sanitised between uses. This speaker will not only deliver high quality audio directly to you, but it also means you don’t have to use your car’s radio for the screening, reducing the risk of flat car batteries.

At the last Fleckney Group drive-in cinema event, the screen size had to be reduced at the last minute for safety reasons due to the very high wind speeds caused by Storm Francis.

This time, a structural engineer has been hired to create a structure that will withstand wind gusts of up to 60mph. This means the large screen can now be used safely in much higher wind conditions.

There is also the new VIP circle, and more catering options will be available. Purchases will be made via an order and collect style system unless you are in the VIP circle. Menus will be available to view beforehand.

According to organisers, the event will be fully compliant with the latest Government restrictions on social distancing at the time of the event and any staff coming into close contact with the public will be wearing the appropriate PPE.

There’s no need to get out of your car at all during the screening if you don’t want to.

There will be large walkways throughout the site so should you need to visit the toilet facilities or collect your food, you will be able to do so without coming into close contact with anyone else.

The toilets will be individual units which will be spaced a minimum of 2m apart. They will be cleaned and sanitised regularly, and there will be ample hand sanitising facilities available.
