A SENSATIONAL unbeaten 130 from 114 balls from opener Luke Jones led Wormelow to a 119 run victory in the Marches League Play-Off final with Builth Wells. Wormelow had no hesitation in batting first after winning the toss and it was partnerships that proved key throughout their innings.

An opening stand of 57 between Jones and Rich Stafford (18) was followed by a second wicket partnership of 71 as Jasper Linley-Adams (26) joined Jones.

A third half century stand of the innings followed for the fourth wicket as 14-year old Oliver Langford scored 31 in a stand of 75 with Jones. The Wormelow innings closed on 274-4 from their 40 overs, Jones batting superbly for his 130 not out, his innings containing 18 fours. Mike Williams was the pick of the Builth attack with 1-36. The Builth reply got off to a steady start curtailed by Tom Cutler who conceded just eight runs from his first fiver overs.

The introduction into the attack of James Snow (4-35) saw wickets began to fall with the required run rate climbing.

Jones completed a fine day by picking up 2-47 with his occasional medium pacers before Cutler reintroduced himself into the attack to pick up the final three wickets to finish with 3-14 from his eight overs.

Builth were all out for 155 off the final ball of the 37th over. It was a convincing victory for reigning Marches League champions Wormelow who won seven from seven in the shortened season.

Also celebrating a successful campaign are Almeley after they won their play-off tie over Herefordians.

After being put into bat Almeley set a target of 157 before skittling the visitors out for 56.
