Aston Villa with Callum Wilson an exciting proposition
As per reports, Bournemouth are holding out for an all up front fee of £17 million for Callum Wilson. It’s an intriguing deal considering Villa don’t tend to sign players past 27 unless needs must. There is a real need, though, in attack for Villa and it’s evident with the latest bid that Wilson is firmly on Dean Smith’s wish-list.
As mentioned, Wilson bullied Villa in both games last year and, at times, gave Tyrone Mings the runaround despite his small frame. I think this move, though, for under £20 million would be smart business from a Villa point of view.
Wilson scored 14 in just 30 Premier League games the year before which led to his England call-up. It wasn’t that long ago! Yes, form waned last season which included a 15-game goal drought but confidence was sparse at the Vitality.
Aston Villa with Callum Wilson in it would make for an exciting proposition given the supply chain of the likes of Jack Grealish, John McGinn and Conor Hourihane. He’d settle in really well as well being a local boy. I think reinvigorating this Premier League marksman entices Smith and it’s a move Villa should press on with.
Wilson can play the No.9 role well as well, as showcased when he backed into the likes of Mings, Bjorn Engels and Ezri Konsa last term, helping Bournemouth press high up the pitch.
I think this proposed transfer screams goals. Would Wilson spurn chances missed by Keinan Davis or Mbwana Samatta last term? You’d think not.
