COLWALL players, fans and the village community are ‘daring to dream’ of a trip to the home of cricket.
This Sunday they travel to Yorkshire to face Carlton Towers in the semi-final of The Cricketer Village Cup.
The winner will be rewarded with a trip to Lord’s cricket ground for the final on September 19.
Last weekend Colwall beat Dumbleton by 10 runs in a memorable quarter-final tie.
It is the first time Colwall have reached the competition’s semi-final since 1991 and they have never reached the prestigious final.
Club chairman Kim Berry says that anything could happen in Sunday’s tie in Yorkshire.
“It’s a great competition for the players, club and community,” said Berry.
“We have a village ground and it was wonderful to see so many people come and watch Sunday’s match.
“It’s an exciting tournament as we get to play against teams from other regions and to test ourselves.
“We don’t know a lot about Sunday’s opponents Carlton Towers but I lived in Yorkshire for 10 years so I know the type of cricket they play will be very hard.
“They will be a strong side, gritty and determined to win. I think we will be underdogs being the away side.
“It will be a nervous game but hopefully we can come back with a smile.
“It has been a dare to dream journey.”
