If you like the idea of getting Mexican street food delivered to your door, then you’ll be pleased to hear that new Leicestershire business The Wako Taco is doing just that.
And, the aim isn’t just to deliver delicious Mexican food – it’s to deliver the best Mexican food you’ve ever had.
The food delivery service has been launched by Leicestershire foodie Dina who, after being made redundant from her job of 19 years, decided to use her passion for the Mexican food she’d enjoyed whilst travelling and recreate the same enjoyment for the people of Leicester.
“I was inspired by numerous visits to various places in Mexico, away from the usual popular tourist destinations, where I had local food and cookery tours. It was culinary tourism, which is getting a more and more poplar holiday activity for many foodies,” said Dina, who was left particularly impressed by one local restaurant.
It will give you regular email updates on the latest from restaurants and bars in Leicestershire.

“There was a family-run restaurant called Dopi’s that was on my first place to eat at the evening we landed on the beautiful island of Isla Mujeres. I ordered fish tacos, chicken burritos and a few sides washed down with rather strong margaritas (not good when jet-lagged!)
“I couldn’t believe how delicious it was. It was that good that it kept me awake at night thinking that that was the most amazing food I’ve possibly ever eaten! So much so, we revisited the same restaurant four times during our week stay, and became good friends with owner.”
Now, Dina wants other people to have the same experience she had when she ate there.
“I want people to experience the real Mexican cuisine that’s lacking in Leicester and crave that ‘that was the best Mexican I’ve ever had’ feeling that I had. However, I don’t want people to lose sleep over it like I did!”
The dream of 15 years began to be turned into a reality at the end of June, when she was made redundant.
“I actually bought the domain name for the website and registered it with the local council the day before I was given my redundancy news.”
She then spent July setting up the business, planning the menu, taste-testing everything and doing the photography and building the website herself.
“I asked a few well known celebrities via Instagram’s messaging service if they would like to help out in anyway with the set-up or spread the word and Leicester R&B legend Mark Morrison very kindly donated money towards my set-up.
“He was impressed that I was doing something positive in such times of doom and gloom and trying to turn something from a mere dream into reality.
To say thanks, Dina has named a taco in his honour.
“It’s ‘The VIP Return of the Macko Taco’ – our sirloin steak taco! I do message him once in a while to keep him updated on my progress.”
The website launched in mid-August.
Customers can order mains such as fish tacos, chipotle pulled pork tacos, vegan chipotle jackfruit and mushroom tacos, chicken burrito, nacho cheesy chicken burrito bowl, and vegetable and cheese quesadilla.
Sides include Wako nachos, tinga wings, and street corn.
The Wako Taco is open from Tuesday to Saturday 12pm until 9pm.
Lunchtime workplace deliveries are available to Meridian and Grove Park, as well as Blaby and Enderby business parks. Food can either be pre-ordered the day before or in the morning.
Evening deliveries are available anywhere within a 30 minute travelling distance from the Thorpe Astley base. This is to ensure the heat and quality of the food remains as high as possible.
Dina is currently looking for the perfect Wako food truck so she can be based at a particular site on a set day for workplaces, and to also use for events.
