One of the world’s most luxurious trains was due to depart from Gloucester in a matter of days but it has now been delayed.
The Northern Belle, which was once part of the iconic Orient Express group, was due to depart from Gloucester on Sunday, September 6 but it has now been postponed.
The delay is as a result of emergency engineering work on the tracks and the journey will now take place the following weekend on Saturday, September 12 instead.
A spokesman for the Northern Belle said: “We very much regret the disappointment and inconvenience this has caused but the situation was out of our hands.”
They went on to say: “Schedules have had to be rearranged because essential engineering work meant that it was impossible to get the train to Gloucester on September 6.
“Still every cloud has a silver lining. Looking on the bright side, the long-range weather forecast is predicting a sunnier day the following Saturday!
“Sadly, of course, we realise that some people will not be able to travel then.
“So we are offering them the option of a full refund or a VIP credit voucher for a future trip with a £50 bonus to spend on board to make up for their disappointment.”
However this may be good news for passengers booked to travel on the train to the Devon seaside resort of Torquay as the long-range weather forecast is predicting more sun on the new date.
The train will leave Gloucester at 9.30am on Saturday, September 12 and will pick up more passengers at Cheltenham at 9.45am. It is scheduled to arrive back in Gloucester at 8.30pm.
