De Montfort Hall has today made an announcement about this year’s pantomime – and it’s bad news for those who were looking forward to a traditional Christmas visit to the theatre.
The Leicester venue has revealed that Sleeping Beauty, which was due to open in December 2020, is being postponed until next year due to Covid-19.
Tickets that have already been purchased for the show will automatically be transferred to the new dates.
Following lengthy discussions, said a spokesperson, De Montfort Hall and pantomime producers Imagine Theatre came to the decision after considering the show’s financial viability given the likely need for social distancing measures.

Antony Flint, venue director, said: “This has been such a difficult decision for us to make but we feel it is our only reasonable option given the probable restrictions on seating capacity and the financial risk involved.
“Panto is so well-loved here in Leicester and we will really miss the venue being packed with excited crowds and the noise and fun of the shows, but we believe our customers deserve to experience a panto as it’s meant to be, and if we are unable to achieve that this year then postponing feels like the most sensible, fair and safe option.”
Sleeping Beauty will run at De Montfort Hall from Saturday, December 11, 2021, to Monday, January 3 2022.
