City shopping centre Highcross has launched a new feature on its website to help customers plan the best time to visit.

The new ‘Crowd Checker’ service provides shoppers with live updates on how popular the centre is in real time, so that they know when to visit to beat the crowds.

The new feature has four statuses:

1. ‘Now is a great time to visit the centre’

2. ‘Now is a popular time to visit the centre’

3. ‘The centre is really popular right now. Allow extra time’

4. ‘Centre closed. Plan when it’s best to visit’

The latest status will be clearly displayed at the top of Highcross Leicester’s homepage.

It will give you regular email updates on the latest from restaurants and bars in Leicestershire.

Our newsletter has been timed to coincide with businesses starting to reopen – as well as to describe delivery and takeaway offers. Click here to sign up!

Talking about the Crowd Checker, Jo Tallack, general manager at Highcross Leicester, said: “We know that some customers are still a little nervous about visiting their favourite shops, and want to beat the crowds. We’re always looking at how we can make life easier and simpler for our customers, and Crowd Checker is a great example of that, as it enables shoppers to check how popular the destination is in live time before they visit, so they can plan their trip.”

Highcross has introduced a number of safety measures, to protect customers and staff.

These include a one-way system in the centre, clear signs throughout the centre reminding everyone of the need to social distance, and to avoid shopping in large groups.

There are hand sanitiser stations around the centre, and enhanced cleaning procedures will be in place.

Only card or contactless payments are currently being accepted at the pay on foot machines in the car park.

In line with updated guidance from the Government, face coverings are now compulsory throughout the centre, including in all stores.
