The award-winning street food event Digbeth Dining Club has announced its return after six months.

Amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis, the popular Birmingham-based food extravaganza has been forced to postpone events.

But it will return to Digbeth in the form of an open-air event this coming weekend (August 14, August 15 and August 16).

The food paradise will be taking over the large, open-air Digbeth Arena from Friday through to Sunday, just a few hundred metres from their usual premises on Lower Trinity Street, with a backdrop of the Victorian Railway Arches.

Throughout the weekend, guests can enjoy the usual DDC cocktail of outstanding food, great music and a unique atmosphere.

Speaking of the weekend ahead, founder and Director, Jack Brabant, said: “Whilst we can’t open at our usual home just yet, the Digbeth Arena seemed like the obvious and perfect choice to be able to bring DDC back to where everyone loves it the most.

“Under the current circumstances, we’ve been finding ways to operate over the past few weeks by creating ‘pop-up DDC’ events at Coventry Cathedral and Warwick Castle – both of which have been hugely successful – but we’ve always been looking at how we can get back to Digbeth.

“The size and sheer scale of the Digbeth Arena means that we can maintain numbers a lot more safely through the use of table bookings, as opposed to selling individual tickets. Everyone will be seated within their family and friendship bubbles, and we will still be able to create a great atmosphere for everyone to enjoy, whilst all feeling safe and distanced.”

The weekend will host some of the countries finest in British street food.

Both of DDC’s permanent residents, Only Jerkin and Buddha Belly, will feature alongside the pan-asian Jade Rabbit, multi-award winning Urban Cheesecake and street food steak-house Beef on the Block.

Bars will all be provided by live-music venue and neighbours, The Mill Digbeth.

Unlike a usual event run by Digbeth Dining Club, where guests pay for entrance individually, DDC will be operating a ‘table-reservation-only’ event, to safely monitor numbers and keep everyone seated in their support bubbles.

Speaking of how the event will work, Jack added: “It’s a system that we’ve rolled out for our events at Warwick Castle and Coventry Cathedral and we’ve had nothing but positive feedback from everyone.

“You just need to buy a table for a specific two and a half hour session, and that table can then seat yourself and up to 5 other people for the duration of the session.

“It keeps everyone together in their groups, nicely spaced out away from everyone. Creating the sessions means that any queues for the bars and food is pushed down to a complete minimum.”

‘DDC’s Digbeth Arena Takeover’ will take place this Friday, Saturday + Sunday. There are only a very limited number of tables available for each day.
