The kings of street food, Digbeth Dining Club, are returning to Coventry this weekend serving up delicious food and drink.
Starting today (Friday, July 31) and concluding on Sunday, August 2, the three-day event will take place at the Coventry Cathedral ruins.
But what vendors will be serving up delicious food in the historic setting? See below for what to expect…
Leave it to Esmie
Esmie’s offers Caribbean street food that stays close to its roots. Inspired by the islands, each dish has been reinvented Esmie’s way to be served up in a street food style – from tortilla bowls filled with traditional mutton curry, to giant Johnny cakes (more commonly known as fried dumplings) filled with jerk chicken!
They have also transformed these dishes for those with dietary requirements ensuring there are vegan and gluten free options too; such as their vegan “mutton” like curry – which is soya based.
Established in 2018, Yardbird is the love child of street food favourites, The Bournville Waffle Company and Pietanic.
Yardbird’s menu consists of the all American-style fried chicken as stacked chicken burgers, chicken strips and filthy fries.
They use chicken thighs in chicken burgers to ensure that the meat is as moist and flavoursome as it can be.
On the menu along with other items this weekend is the Dirty Clucker. It contains buttermilk fried chicken, smoked streaky bacon, Yardbird’s cheese sauce, pickles, iceberg lettuce and house mayonaise.
Dim Sum Su
Dim Sum Sue was established as an authentic Chinese street food business in 2015. Two years later they won the People’s Choice award at the British Street Food Awards 2017 and came third in Berlin at the European Street Food Awards.
Diners this weekend can tuck into Karrage chicken popcorn, crispy broccoli bites, crispy jackfruit nuggets, Chinese salt and pepper fries or a host of different fillings in a Chinese steamed bao (bun).
A read DDC favourite. Thai-inspired, Birmingham-made, multi award-winning street food vendor who serve up Thai fried chicken, traditional curries, noodles and a Thai vegan curry.
Bournville Waffle Company
Founded in 2013 by Jenny and Des, they sell fresh Belgian Waffles with fun and playful flavours from a vintage, restored caravan.
Toppings on offer this weekend include; cookie cheesecake, Biscoff, Munchies millionaire, Kinder Bueno, raspberry cheesecake, Kit Kat and strawberry and Nutella.
Classic American style barbecued food is on Dick’s Smokehouse’s menu. Meats are cooked over natural coal and wood.
All of their meat is cooked low and slow, to create tender and flavoursome products. Each meat is smoked over different woods to give them there own unique smoky taste.
The meat is then paired with a selection of home made sides, such as pickles, relishes and sauces. Dick’s Smokehouse makes its own sauces and rubs too.
Drinks vendors at the event include; Beaufort Spirit, Cocktail Caravan, Bayley Lane, There Goes Coffee and Fizz Fellas.
