A hit-and-run victim is “up and talking in hospital” as police continue to investigate the incident in Handsworth.

It was initially feared that the man had been seriously injured after being struck by a car on Church Lane at around 4.40pm yesterday (Tuesday).

But  West Midlands Police today (Wednesday) said that the man’s injuries were not as serious as first feared and he was making good progress in hospital.

A spokesman for the force said: “The victim thankfully isn’t as seriously injured as first feared, he’s up and talking in hospital.”

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and at this stage there has been no arrests.

The man was rushed to hospital following the incident which blocked off Church Lane.

A force spokesperson previously said: “We were alerted at 4.40pm today to a serious collision  in Church Lane by the junction of Selborne Road in Handsworth.

“It’s understood a car struck a male pedestrian at the traffic light junction before driving off.

“Church Lane has been closed to preserve the scene and efforts are underway to try and trace the offending driver and vehicle.”

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dash cam or cycle cam footage, to message them on Live Chat via their website or call officers on 101 quoting log 3250 from 28 July.
