Kate Garraway has shared behind-the-scenes images and video from her child Billy’s birthday this weekend.
Kate surprised her birthday boy son Billy as he celebrated his 11th birthday this weekend, and revealed all on Good Morning Britain today.
Billy’s dad Derek Draper, 52, has faced a gruelling health battle since March, having contracted coronavirus and being rushed to hospital.
Derek entered a coma on April 5, and has yet to fully regain consciousness, with Kate returning to GMB last Monday as doctors told her to “get on with life.”
The 53-year-old Good Morning Britain host opened up on Instagram, telling fans: “Feel so emotional but know Derek will be so proud and pleased.”
On Monday’s instalment, Kate revisited her weekend, with family celebrations as Billy celebrated his 11th birthday in style.
Billy was the talk of social media with a spectacular birthday party going viral, thanks to an appearance from Roman Kemp and his dad Martin.
Kate revealed: “Because of obviously the situation and his dad being in hospital and the difficulties we are facing with mixing at the moment, he is having FOUR birthdays.
“Quite right too,” laughed Ben.
Kate nodded and continued, saying: “Yes, four birthdays. The first one was with his little friends on Saturday which was an absolute storm. Global Smooth Radio provided a magnificent birthday cake. It was delivered by Roman Kemp from Capital Breakfast and Martin Kemp.”
A disbelieving Ben replied: “So you had Martin Kemp from Spandau Ballet singing happy birthday?”
“It was extraordinary, I know,” Kate laughed. “Always believe in your soul, Ben Shephard. It was a fantastic campout in the back garden. He had a huge tent which allowed them to be separate whichw as really good.”
Cutting to a video of Roman playing with Billy and his mates in the garden, Kate ploughed on, saying: “This is Roman Kemp – he came in his I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here camp outfit.”
“Did Bill enjoy it?” Ben asked, before Kate responded: “Oh he absolutely loved it.”
This year was the first birthday Billy celebrated without his dad, who is still seriously ill in hospital.
Although Derek has managed to fight off Covid-19, the damage done to his body by the deadly virus has been extensive, with serious damage to his kidneys, lungs and muscles.
