Coventry City midfielder Jordan Shipley says he has spoken to Callum O’Hare since the 22-year-old left the club last month but that the former Aston Villa star has remained tight-lipped on his future.

Shipley was one of O’Hare’s many midfield partners for the Sky Blues during their League One promotion campaign and shared plenty of on-field battles with the youngster during their youth careers at rival clubs.

But now O’Hare is a free agent after his contract at Villa Park expired on the same day that his stay with Coventry came to an end.

The Sky Blues are still understood to be keen on landing O’Hare on a permanent basis this summer but talk of a deal has fallen silent in recent weeks with the highly-rated playmaker understood to be considering his options before committing his future to any one club.

That hasn’t stopped his former teammates from looking for answers themselves though with Shipley describing O’Hare as “one of the best” he has ever played with.

“I’ve spoken to him since he left, of course I have, but I don’t know what he is going to do,” said Shipley, speaking to CoventryLive.

“He doesn’t give much away when we speak to him, he is a really quiet lad. He’s doing well though, personally, and we’ll see what happens.

“We all know he is a great talent. We all want him back, but at the end of the day it is up to him,” he continued.

“We’re all the same, we’d all love him to come back but Callum has to do what is right for him at the end of the day.

“I’ve played against Callum for so many years with Coventry’s academy while he was coming through at Villa and I always knew that he was a sublime talent. He was always one of the best players I had ever played against growing up.

“We all know he is a great talent. We all want him back, but at the end of the day it is up to him.”
