A multi award-winning Rutland pub has been named as one of the country’s best pubs to visit following the coronavirus lockdown easing.
The Olive Branch at Clipsham was picked by travel company Sawday’s as one of its ’50 best pubs to visit when they open in England on 4 July.’
The selection was published in the i newspaper last weekend. Talking about The Olive Branch, it said:
“”Not much has stopped The Olive Branch in the 400 years it has been a pub. It returns triumphantly now with seasonal hedgerow cocktails and a new tapas menu to entice you into the garden, where a handful of gazebos have been laid out to make your social distancing much more social than distant.”
The Olive Branch has picked up an array of awards and accolades since it opened in 1999.
This has included becoming one of the first pubs in the UK to win a Michelin Star (which it held from 2002 until 2013) and being named UK Pub of the Year by The Good Pub Guide in 2014.
It was listed as one of Top Ten Best Pubs (UK) and Top Ten Wine Pubs (UK) by the Good Pub Guide 2020, as well as being named Dining Pub of the Year (Rutland and Leicestershire) in the guide. The Olive Branch has won this award for 15 of the last 18 years.
In January this year, it was named as the 27th best gastropub in the UK, at the Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropub Awards.
Following the easing of lockdown restrictions, The Olive Branch reopened on July 4.
Diners can choose from several new dining areas, including garden gazebos and the terrace outside, and the dining rooms, bar and barn inside.
There’s a variety of summer menus to choose from – including ‘tapas on the terrace’, Sunday lunch, and summer lunch for less, which costs £22.50 for two courses, with a third course priced at £6.00.
