When you’re stuck inside and the weather is awful, something the best thing to cheer you up is a takeaway.
And now takeaways are being to do non-contact deliveries and Leicester has been put into another local lockdown, your takeaway consumption might be increasing even more.
Thanks to Deliveroo, the takeaway service has revealed the top 10 ordered items over the last three months but also found other eating trends that city folk have been taking part in.
The top ten ordered food items
- The Original German Doner Kebab from German Doner Kebab
- Bulgogi Chicken from Grounded Kitchen
- Pack of Fairtrade Bananas from M&S Leicester
- Chick-a-boo from Boo
- Bacon Cheeseburger from Five Guys
- Waffle Bites from Chocoberry
- British Fresh Semi-Skimmed Milk from Co-op – London Road
- 2 Hot Wings® from KFC
- Chicken Katsu Curry from Kokoro
- Cookie Monster from FudgePuppy
Other lockdown eating trends include eating at an earlier time. Deliveroo found that Friday at 7:04pm is the most popular time for Leiecester locals to order Deliveroo.
This is in line with a national trend the company has seen over lockdown – where average orders on a weekday would usually peak at approx 7.30pm, this has now shifted to 30 mins earlier in the day. This suggests locals might be daydreaming about their dinners before they’ve eaten their lunch.
People have also been ordering more of their groceries from the delivery service during lockdown.
Over the past three months national supermarkets, local convenience stores and off-licenses have joined the platform to ensure essential items are accessible for those in isolation due to Covid-19, including BP/ Marks & Spencers and the Co-op.
A pack of bananas from the Co-op and semi-skimmed milk from M&S are among the 10 most popular items ordered in Leicester over lockdown, as locals opt to have their essentials delivered.
