Travellers have been spotted on playing fields today (Friday, June 19) less than 500m from the grounds of a primary school where Coventry City Council evicted a previous encampment.
The group has been sighted on a football pitch on the Humber Road Open Space in Stoke.
The camp is near Gosford Park Primary School, where travellers who had occupied the rear grounds left yesterday (Thursday, June 18) after the council took enforcement action.
The school had been forced to close to key worker children while the travellers were on the site.
A clean-up operation was underway on the playing fields today as well as at another location, Top Green Park, near to War Memorial Park, which has also been vacated by travellers after enforcement action by the council.
The latest camp, comprising several vehicles, is by Ribble Road and Humber Road next to Gosford Community Hub.
A local resident said: “I noticed them there this morning, they weren’t there at 8pm last night.” It’s not known if the same group has simply shifted to a nearby location.
A spokesman for the council said: “We’re aware [of the group] and have begun work to issue a notice to vacate the land.”
