Nine Greggs bakeries in Coventry and Warwickshire are among hundreds reopening across the country from Thursday.

The bakeries, including several in Coventry and others in Bedworth and Rugby, will be open in a matter of weeks, according to the bakery giant.

It follows the likes of McDonald’s and Burger King, which has reopened branches in the region.

CoventryLive reported this morning Greggs wants hundreds more open by “early July” – but bosses warned the stores would be very different.

These are the stores which will reopen:

  • Bedworth, 32 All Saints Sq, CV12 8ND
  • Coventry, U7 Cannon Park SC, CV4 7EH
  • Coventry, 137 Daventry Rd, CV3 5HD
  • Coventry, 25 Smithford Way, CV1 1FY
  • Coventry, U10A Arena SP, CV6 6AS
  • Coventry, MFG Binley, CV3 2ZZ
  • Coventry, UA2 Island Site, Vanguard Ave, CV5 6UA
  • Rugby, 19 Market Pl, CV21 3DU
  • Warwick, UN Leamington SP, CV34 6RH

Greggs throughout Coventry and Warwickshire have been closed since lockdown was announced by the Prime Minister on March 23.

Bosses unveiled the new-look stores, with floor markings, protective clothes for staff and screens at counters among several measures to protect against coronavirus spreading.

There will also be a reduced menu to ensure social distancing in kitchens and workspaces.

Greggs had been allowed to stay open throughout the lockdown, offering takeaway and delivery services.

But bosses declined, saying it felt remaining open would compromise the safety of its employees.

Longer term, the company added it has temporarily suspended its new shop opening plans, beyond those legally committed to, with just 10 new sites expected.
